Josh Goldman Discusses how KoBold Metals is Leading Global Mineral Exploration

This week, the Rotary Club of Birmingham (RCB) welcomed Josh Goldman, Co-Founder and President of KoBold Metals. Goldman shared the story behind KoBold’s rise to become the largest independent mineral exploration company and a global leader in exploration technology. Founded in 2018, KoBold uses AI and machine learning to accelerate the discovery of essential energy-transition metals like copper, lithium, and cobalt. Goldman shared how Kobold is advancing the sustainable supply of battery-critical metals for a greener future, with 70+ projects across five continents. He highlighted the company’s innovative data platforms, global partnerships with mining giants, and the success of its flagship Mingomba copper project in Zambia.
Bio for Josh Goldman
Josh Goldman is Co-Founder and President of KoBold Metals Company. Since inception in 2018, KoBold has grown under Josh’s leadership to become the largest independent mineral exploration company and the largest exploration technology developer. Today, KoBold operates exploration programs guided by proprietary technology on four continents, and KoBold discovered the tier one Mingomba copper deposit in Zambia, one of the world’s highest-grade and largest copper orebodies.
Josh’s expertise lies at the intersection of technology and natural resource businesses. Prior to starting KoBold, he was a private equity investor in upstream oil & gas and a consultant with McKinsey & Company focused on corporate finance, strategy, and advanced analytics.
Josh earned a Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University for experiments on quantum computing. He also received master’s degrees in History of Science from Imperial College London and in Applied Mathematics from Cambridge University, where he was a Marshall Scholar, and a B.A. in Physics from Cornell University.
