President Bruce Rogers with Nicole Newell

This week, the Rotary Club of Birmingham welcomed Nicole Newell, Operations Director of The J.M. Smucker Company’s new $1.1 billion, 900,000-square-foot plant in McCalla, Alabama. She provided an overview of the company’s 127-year history, its well-known brands such as Jif, Folgers, Dunkin’, and Meow Mix, in addition to its hallmark jams and jellies. Newell brought samples of the popular Uncrustables sandwiches for members to try. The McCalla facility features the largest single-line bakery in North America and created nearly 750 jobs in the region.

Newell emphasized Smucker’s commitment to the core values of teamwork, kindness, and doing the right thing. She also highlighted the company’s sustainability initiatives and local community partnerships, including efforts with Lawson State, the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, and the Miracle League.
