RCB Scholarship Recipient Rainiela Ortis Veras Shares Her Journey at Berea College

Scholarship recipient Rainiela Ortis Veras

During a recent Rotary Club of Birmingham meeting, 2021 RCB Foundation Jim Hughey Jr. Scholarship recipient Rainiela Ortis Veras shared an update on her college journey. The Berea College senior shared that she is excited to return for her final semester before beginning student teaching. Originally set on a pre-veterinary track, Rainiela discovered her passion for education and has not looked back. She discussed how she has grown tremendously through rigorous coursework and over 200 hours of classroom observation. Rainiela enjoyed playing on the school’s soccer team until an ACL tear sidelined her. She shared that the power of community at Berea aided in her recovery, helping her find strength, balance, and self-confidence.

“I want to thank you all for the generous scholarship support,” Rainiela told club members. “It really helped me so much.”
